Tucker Freight Lines wins 2024 Trimble Ovation Award for best collaboration

Congratulations to Tucker Freight Lines for winning the 2024 Trimble Ovation Award in the category, “Better Together: Best Collaboration!” This award recognizes organizations that have implemented Trimble solutions in collaborative and innovative ways with additional industry solutions already deployed within an operation.

With a fleet of 250-500 trucks at any given time, Tucker Freight Lines has built a reputation for reliability and efficiency in the transportation industry. They’ve been a long-time Trimble customer, and through a full integration of Trimble TMW.Suite TMS and TMT Fleet Maintenance, they’ve revamped their technology ecosystem, elevated their operations and achieved impressive performance results across the last year of operations.

The Challenge

Tucker Freight Lines faced a handful of challenges, including a digital transformation initiative and over-reliance on manual processes to track vehicle maintenance and inventory. This led to inaccurate data and inefficient workflows, including untracked or improperly closed work orders. They needed a collaborative partner willing to adapt to their ecosystem.

“We wanted to get to a place where reports could be relied upon for accurate information to run the shop using TMT software,” said Charles Martin, Chief Information Officer for Tucker Freight Lines. “It was critical that we were able to integrate Trimble solutions directly into our tech stack and workflows, so we could maximize our investment and efficiency. We were relieved to see that the Trimble team was more than willing and able to work with us throughout that process.”

The Tucker team reached out for assistance in implementing TMT Fleet Maintenance for accurate reporting and seamless integration with TMW.Suite TMS to create a single data entry point. Together, the Tucker and Trimble teams created a project plan with a six-month timeline that included step-by-step milestones to address key pain points, such as data accuracy, system configuration and team training.

The team then manually verified and updated data for over 1,500 pieces of equipment and corrected meter readings on more than 300 power units. Through detailed checks and persistent teamwork, Tucker and Trimble identified gaps, streamlined processes, and implemented a full integration with existing systems. The collaborative effort set a clear path to transform Tucker’s operations and maximize the software's potential.

“There were many obstacles we faced to achieve this goal and integration with TMW.Suite TMS. Data had to be corrected manually to ensure that the integration process would go smoothly,” said Martin.

The Results

Now, Tucker Freight Lines is seeing huge changes in their day-to-day operations. Since all vehicles and equipment are now fully integrated with TMW.Suite TMS and TMT Fleet Maintenance solutions for accurate data sharing, they’ve been able to successfully streamline maintenance tracking, automate invoicing for drivers, and improve overall work efficiency. They’ve completely replaced manual spreadsheets for tracking maintenance, saving the company over 20 hours of manual work weekly.

“This has been a long journey since the purchase of TMT,” said Martin. “We were feeling the pressure to make something productive happen, and with dedication and the right support, we have made great strides. Today, we’re seeing the results of that effort, and it’s been worth every step.”
