Trimble’s Brian Mulshine talks fleet maintenance strategy and solutions with FreightWaves
How will fleet maintenance continue to evolve? In a recent, wide-ranging interview for the FreightWaves Loading and Rolling podcast, Brian Mulshine, Senior Director of TMT Product Management for Trimble, discussed the many ways carriers can enhance their fleet maintenance strategy to decrease downtime, save money and optimize their business.
Mulshine spoke at length on a number of topics, including the many advantages of implementing a more robust maintenance strategy, the impact of new technologies on vehicle longevity and the disadvantages of new, proprietary oil blends. He also discussed the ways his team is working to enhance Trimble TMT Fleet Maintenance and related solutions to better integrate manufacturer maintenance guidance and alerts.
“When operational cost is nearing 11% of your total revenue for freight movement, and there’s about 4.5 service events per year per vehicle, how do I manage each event? How do I manage the cost? The cost has climbed nearly 32% over the last five years for fleets based on feedback they’ve provided,” Mulshine remarked.
“Now, the goal is to diagnose the vehicle and get them serviced before they break down on the side of the road. Because the vehicles have the information, but now what do you do with the information? How do you implement processes that are smart?”
