Polaris Transportation Group wins Trimble Ovation Award for TruckMate TMS integration

Congratulations to Polaris Transportation Group for winning the 2024 Trimble Ovation award in the category of “Better Together: Best Collaboration!” This award recognizes customers for their innovative use of Trimble solutions to transform their operations.

Founded in 1994, Polaris is a family-owned and -operated transportation company and freight brokerage best known for their scheduled LTL service between the US and Canada, as well as industry-leading transit times. With a growing fleet of more than 250 trucks, and a large fleet of owner-operators, Polaris was in need of a solution that could unify their data streams and deliver real-time tracking information to the back office and customers. They found it in an integrated deployment of Trimble TruckMate TMS.


The challenge: real-time tracking and seamless integration

Polaris wanted to elevate their fleet’s efficiency and the customer experience. They identified real-time tracking as a top priority and knew that they would need a solution that would integrate with multiple systems across their operation and deliver the data needed in a consistent, timely manner. As part of this effort, they also wanted to more efficiently label and identify their freight, so it was more easily managed when loading and unloading.

"Our goal was to achieve real-time data integration to our backend, as well as tracking freight more accurately and timely," explained David Brajkovich, Chief Technology Officer at Polaris Transportation Group. "Obstacles we faced were keeping the technology simple for our drivers and making integrations robust for performance needs with high volumes of transactions."

To achieve their goals, Polaris needed to unify the in-cab ELD system they use to track Hours of Service (HOS) and manage their drivers’ daily workflows with their proprietary FR8Focus application, as well as their ConnectedDock freight management application. 

They did this by using TruckMate TMS as the centerpiece of their strategy, connecting each of their freight tracking and management systems so the data was seamlessly passed from the driver and vehicle to the back office and warehouse. From there, the tracking information could be passed onward to customers for complete visibility. 


The results: dramatic Improvements in efficiency and accuracy

The results of Polaris's innovative approach were outstanding. The interconnected workflow supported by TruckMate TMS significantly improved freight labeling and management, resulting in a remarkable 90% reduction in lost freight and claims. 

The implementation of their mobile applications enabled real-time freight tracking, eliminating late pickups and deliveries by an impressive 100%. Additionally, integrated document scanning allowed for 99% revenue recovery through timely bill capture.
