Operation Safe Driver Week (Oct 18-24)

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) kicks off their annual event, Operation Safe Driver Week, next week. With the support of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the CVSA will begin its week-long campaign against unsafe driving practices. Trucks, buses, and passenger vehicles are the focus of the push.

Operation Safe Driver Week targets teens, commercial vehicle fleets, and driving educators to raise awareness about safe driving behaviors when encountering a large vehicle on the road. The program began in 2007 and draws participants — last year, 4,337 law enforcement officials in 1,549 locations around the U.S. and Canada reported pullover data to the alliance. CVSA’s outreach is crucial when faced with the fact that, “Young people ages 17 to 24 years old, unnecessarily endanger themselves by failing to recognize that trucks and cars differ in their handling characteristics. As a result, nearly 70 percent of traffic crashes involving large trucks and cars are the fault of the car driver.” Learn more about Operation Safe Driver Week here.
